With a structural vacancy rate of around 30%, ‘In de Bogaard’ is one of the top three shopping centres in the Netherlands that are in need of revitalisation. The sixty-year old shopping centre no longer meets the needs and wishes of our time and, therefore, requires radical change. The municipality of Rijswijk, property owners and developers see opportunities for a vibrant new city centre. As part of the ‘In de Bogaard and surroundings’ master plan adopted in December 2019, over the coming years parties will work on creating a more diverse, greener and attractive urban shopping centre, with fewer shops, lots of new homes, social amenities and an attractive public space for cyclists and pedestrians. VINU has been commissioned by the municipality of Rijswijk to act as the area manager for this complex inner-city area development with many different stakeholders.
